Front Line Demonstration at Mawkynrong village, Ribhoi District, Meghalaya.
Front Line Demonstration under the project of “AICRP on FIM” was conducted at Mawkynrong village by division of agricultural engineering, ICAR Research complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya. The village has an area of more than 100 ha and which falls under Umsning Block, Ribhoi District, Meghalaya on the 22nd of August 2019 in order to popularize and commercialize the equipment. Around 58 settlements were recorded in this village. A welcome speech was given by Shri. Dwin Dkhar, Rangbah Shnong, Mawkynrong, Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya.
The tools and implements such as Briquette mould, Cono weeder, Metallic tip dibbler, Fruit Harvester cut type with basket, Fruit Harvester Crown type, Fruit Harvester pull-type, Garden Rake, Garden hoe, Grass slasher, Hand fork, Hedge shear, Laoping shear, Straight blade weeder, Mounted maize sheller, Maize sheller, Multipower angular long reach pruner, Post Hole Digger, U type blade weeder and V type blade weeder were explained and demonstrated about its importance and use and how to operate them and how the farmers will benefit from it. All these improved tools and implements were new to them. After the demonstration, a chance was given to the farmers to interact and to use the tools. During the demonstration, it was reported by the villager that a few farmers of the village use machinery like power tiller for ploughing especially for lowlands rest villager use traditional tools and implement. At the end of the demonstration, some improved hand tools were given to the headman of the village for popularization of improved hand tools which are suitable for the region.
